With the HECAT web application (HECAT Online) a user can compile results from a curriculum analysis (a systematic and thorough assessment of health education curriculum) or complete a scope and sequence outlining the breadth and arrangement of key health topics across grade levels (scope) and the logical progression of essential health knowledge, skills, and behaviors to be addressed at each grade level (sequence) from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade. Further details on how to conduct a curriculum analysis or develop a scope and sequence can be found in links on the Home page.
The first step in using HECAT Online to conduct a curriculum analysis or develop a scope and sequence is to join a team. A team can range from a single user to as many members as required to conduct the necessary tasks. The creator of a team becomes the original team lead. The team lead can invite others to join the team and assign other members to become a team lead. The team lead also controls the access to the team's projects. Teams can be created and managed by selecting the TEAMS menu item on the Home page. A user may be a member of an unlimited number of teams. HECAT Online displays the projects for one team at a time. A user who is a member of more than one team can move between teams by selecting the CHANGE button in the Current Team box on the Home page.
Once a team is created, a team lead can create projects. Project types are: [1] curriculum analysis or [2] scope and sequence. Once projects are created, all team members have access to enter information into the project questionnaires, view summary score forms, and access summary reports. Any team member can update information in a project, and change information saved by other members; however, multiple users should not update the same component at the same time or changes may be overwritten. Care must be taken so that only one user updates any one component at a time. Projects can be locked and unlocked by a team lead. This will allow team members to view project information but not make changes. A team may have an unlimited number of projects. Projects can be created and managed by selecting the PROJECTS menu item.
After a user has signed in with an email account, several key elements can be found on the Home page:
At the top of each page, there is a horizontal menu that allows users to navigate the major tasks and functions of HECAT Online.
For example:
Below this is the title of the current page the user has open. Below the title is a navigation tool that allows the selection of previous pages within the current task or component.
For example:
On pages where information is entered, the user must press the SAVE button to save entered or changed information. The CLOSE button can be used to return to the previous screen without saving entered information. Care must be taken to ensure the SAVE button is selected to avoid losing entered or changed information. The PRINT button can be used to print the information forms and summaries.
