Scope and Sequence

The Scope and Sequence page displays scope and sequence projects initiated or completed by a team. A scope and sequence outlines the breadth and arrangement of key health topics and concepts across grade spans (scope), and the logical progression of essential health knowledge, skills, and behaviors to be addressed at each grade level (sequence) from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade. For further information on how to create a scope and sequence, see the document Using HECAT Online to Develop A Scope and Sequence for Health Education, found on the Scope and Sequence page. The user can create a new project by pressing the NEW PROJECT button, or select an existing project by clicking on the SELECT link. When a new scope and sequence project is created, the user must enter a title and description and click on the SAVE button to continue. Next, the user selects the grade spans (e.g., PreK–2; 3–5; 6–8; 9–12) and then the health topic module(s) to be incorporated into the scope and sequence.

When performing the curriculum analysis, the user selects the health topic module(s) included in the health education curriculum by checking the box next to the module title. After the initial selection of health topic modules, only those selected will be displayed. To change the module(s) selected, the user can click on the CHANGE MODULE SELECTIONS button. Module descriptions can be seen by checking the SHOW MODULE DETAILS box. Further details on each module can be found in links found on their individual pages, and under the FORMS menu option.

Each health topic module can be accessed by clicking on the corresponding button, which will display the instructions for completing the details of that module's analysis. The status marker in the right column indicates whether information has been added for that module.
